India, Families, and a Special Education School

In India, integrated schools or special schools provide education for students with disabilities. Integrated or inclusive schools are public schools that accept students with disabilities, but offer limited support to these students. At the moment, the number of students with disabilities in integrated or inclusive schools is small. Furthermore, these schools typically serve only students with visual or hearing impairments.
Special schools are private schools that serve special needs students and are frequently located in urban areas. These early schools frequently served the blind and deaf, as well as orphans and outcasts. Currently, there are approximately 2500 special schools in India.
