Inductive Method For Grammar Teaching

Inductive Method For Grammar Teaching

Let’s first know what an inductive method is?

Inductive Method For Grammar Teaching , a type of reasoning that involves combining a number of observations to arrive at a general premise. Deductive reasoning is different from inductive reasoning.

The inductive method of teaching comprises the teacher presenting the rule through circumstances and sentences, followed by supervised practice, before allowing the students to practice independently. Following that, the teacher deduces or elicits the rule form from the students on their own.

Before they use the language, learners identify or notice patterns and devise a ‘rule’ for themselves using an inductive technique. A rule-driven approach begins with introduction of a rule and continues with examples of how the rule is applied.

Grammar teaching and learning have both benefited from inductive approaches. The learners are taught a broad rule, which is then applied to specific language examples and sharpened through practice tasks in a deductive way.

Inductive reasoning (rule discovery) begins with a set of instances from which a rule can be derived.

ADVANTAGES OF INDUCTIVE APPROACH:

  • Learners of rules discover for themselves (student-centered) how to use and when to utilise certain structures rather than following the rules they have been given. As a result, the rules become more important, memorable, and learned.
  • Students are more engaged in the learning process rather than being passive listeners, as a result of which they are more attentive and motivated.
  • Students learn to solve problems for themselves, which prepares them for increased independence and autonomy.

DISADVANTAGES OF INDUCTIVE APPROACH:

  • Working out rules with students takes a lot of time and effort.
  • It’s possible that the effort spent developing a rule comes at the expense of time spent putting the rule into effect.
  • It may be necessary for teachers to concentrate on lesson planning. They must carefully pick and organise data in order to lead learners to an accurate formulation of the rule while also ensuring that the material is understandable.
  • Students who would rather be told the rule would be frustrated by an inductive method.

Teachers must adapt their teaching strategies and methods to their students interests and levels of achievement, with a greater emphasis on using the inductive method of teaching grammar.

Teachers and instructors are invited to take part in a variety of rigorous training courses to learn about numerous modern methods of teaching English. They should also use modern teaching methods in their classes.
